AYE Gallery will showcase Ji Dachun’s solo exhibition “Images, Time, and Boundaries” from December 27, 2024 to March 4, 2025, marking his fourth solo exhibition at the gallery. Ji Dachun’s recent artistic practices have increasingly shifted from allegorical and narrative elements towards a focus on materiality and sensory experience, reflecting a broader trend in contemporary art. The artist’s predominantly monotonal compositions, featuring organic shapes, jagged lines, and rigid forms, create a complex landscape that is both enigmatic and balanced. By preserving the structural essence of Chinese landscape painting while stripping it of content, these works evoke a psycho-spiritual terrain, achieved through the interplay of contrasting elements—linear and painterly, organic and geometric, flatness and texture, as well as the tensions between positive and negative space, disjointed yet unified.
