Wang Yabin

Wang Yabin currently lives in Zhengzhou, Henan Province

Wang Yabin mastered eastern depiction of landscape and portraits using western painting techniques. His early works strike one intuitively as traditional ink painting, tracing scenes lost in time as his aesthetic objective, using spatial logic of structuralism to portray visual graphics essential to his painting.

His work “The Slope Behind Me (2001)” shows traits of abstract expressionism. Wang Yabin used similar texture to that of ancient frescoes, simplistic and seasoned. In the later series Birds (2005) and Towers (2007), abstract and metaphorical expressions were carried on. Since 2011, a large number of sceneries and landscapes have appeared in his paintings. The Landscape (2015) series shows a new possibility. In his new works, the artist usual calm and restraint style was integrated into his powerful and explosive strokes. Wang’s exquisite painting skills and deep-rooted cultural background makes the subject of his works illuminated with spirits. His latest series “Flowers and Stone” Series exude a strong historical flavor with touching strokes, unsophisticated and straightforward colors. His obsession with Chinese traditional culture inspired him to transfer the intuitive ancient images to a modern language. Wang Yabin’s “intervention” to traditional painting makes him a pioneer of his own kind.

In 2019, “Flower & Stone” series is admitted in Limited Edition Whisky ARTIST #9 Series label by La Maison du Whisky.
